Amy Bourrett Obituary

BOURRET, Amy Jo Amy Jo Bourret, age 53, died November 26, 2015, after a long struggle with Lupus and other related autoimmune disease. She was born July 20, 1962 in Denver, Colorado to parents Carole Wedemeyer Bourret and John Lowell Bourret. Amy was preceded in death by her father, her maternal grandparents Anne Marie and E.H. Wedemeyer of Manchester, Iowa; her paternal grandparents Marie Hancock Hargis of Kansas City and Eldon Lowell "Bill" Bourret of Denver. Survivors include her mother Carole, her sister Laurie Bourret Lamb and brother in law, John; and her adored nieces, Callie Marie Lamb and Elizabeth Ann Lamb all of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving are her uncles Charles and Jim Wedemeyer and their wives Susan and Nancy and her cousins Lisa Wedemeyer Kinsella, Jacob Wedemeyer and David Wedemeyer. Amy was educated in public elementary schools in Salt Lake City, Kansas City and Houston; graduated from Spring High School in 1980 and enrolled in Texas Tech University where she was an active member of Delta Gamma Fraternity, a Raider Recruiter, President's Hostess, several honoraries tapped by Mortar Board and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1984. Her law career began at Yale Law School from which she graduated in 1987 and was privileged to clerk for the Honorable Patrick E. Higginbotham of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. She was an associate at the Dallas Office of Baker and Botts and later became a partner at Kirkpatrick and Lockhart (KLGates). Health issues forced her to leave the world of law. Amy was passionate about her volunteer work. She served as a volunteer child advocate while in law school, was on the board of Our Friends Place and especially cherished her time as a board member of Presbyterian Children's Home and Services (PCHAS). She was a member of the P.E.O. sisterhood, Chapters BC and GC in Texas and was confounded when she was deputized by Mayor Laura Miller to coordinate Katrina relief efforts through Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church. Amy was a faithful and active member of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church. She also served as a student deacon at Yale University Chapel. Her novel, Mothers and Other Liars was successfully published in 2010, and she was able to do a book tour in spite of declining health. Amy Jo: daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, cousin, lawyer, writer, violinist, gymnast, animal lover and friend, was also the chief operating officer of the grammar police and exclamation points, an avid reader, a lover of puns, everything moon-related, an intense Scrabble player and a highly vocal critic of all things she deemed stupid. A celebration of life will be held in the Chapel at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church at 1:00 p.m. On Monday, December 14th. Wear bright colors for Amy. A reception will follow in the church parlor. If you choose, memorials are suggested, in her name, to Presbyterian Children's Home and Services, (PCHAS), 4407 Bee Cave Road. Suite 520, Austin, TX 78746-6496; or Operation Kindness, 3201 Earhart Drive, Carrollton, TX 75006. She will be missed.

There must have been a reason for a chance meeting. I told you about losing my seventeen-year-old daughter and you told me about Amy. I just finished her book," Mother and other liers."
Her book touched my heart. I wish that I had the privilege of knowing her. But, her spirit has reached me through her writing and has brought me comfort as I know it has brought you also.
