Edward Alt Obituary

ALT III., Edward Feb. 16, 1938 - January 20, 2016 Edward Alt III "Ed" passed away peacefully at home on January 20 surrounded by his wife and three children. Ed was born in St. Louis, Missouri and attended Webster Groves High School where he played on the 1954 state champion football team. He went on to attend the University of Missouri and Washington University in St. Louis. In 1964, Ed married Susan Furry, also a native of Webster Groves, and after a short time in St. Louis, they settled in Richardson, Texas where they raised their three children. Ed had a long and successful career in the shoe industry. While he was an entrepreneur at heart and pursued many ventures over the years, his greatest joy was being with family and friends. During retirement, Ed became an avid golfer, spending quality time with his friends on the golf course. To Ed, family was everything and he constantly emphasized its importance. He was a devoted husband and loving father who set high standards, instilled a diligent work ethic and imparted a strong moral compass in his kids. He delighted in their accomplishments, while overlooking their shortcomings. He was an enthusiastic grandfather and loved spending time with his six grandchildren. He was a man of quiet faith and an optimist by nature. He was a dedicated friend and celebrated the successes of others. He was the life of the party. He knew a lot about a lot, loved a good deal, and could fix just about anything. Ed is survived by his wife Susan, his three children: Eric Alt, his wife Claire and their children Wyatt and Travis; his daughter Pam Goodson, her husband Doug and their children Kyle and Grace; and Alex Alt, his wife Jaxie and their children Harrison and Cooper. He is also survived by his brothers Randy Alt of St. Louis and Thomas Alt of Chicago, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Transfiguration, 14115 Hillcrest Road, Dallas, TX on Saturday February 13 at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Church of the Transfiguration or The Network of Community Ministries (www.thenetwork.org).
