She was born in Modale, Iowa and lived in Trotwood, Ohio from 1963-2006 when she moved to Scottsdale, Arizona. She previously lived in Wisconsin and Indiana. Alice is remembered as a teacher, a counselor, a wise mentor to many, and a loving mother to her own children and extended family of students, friends and relatives. After graduation from University of Wisconsin, Alice obtained her pilot's license and served in the Civilian Air Patrol along the shores of Lake Michigan and Superior in the early 1940's. Alice joined the American Red Cross and served in New Guinea and the Philippines during WW II. Alice earned two Master's Degrees from Miami University of Ohio. After retiring as a home economics schoolteacher of 20+ years at Jefferson Township High School, she obtained her Ph.D. in Nutrition and began another 20 year career as a licensed professional counselor and nutritionist in Dayton, Ohio. She missed her close friends and extended family from Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church when she moved to Arizona. Alice is survived by her four children: Charles, Cathe Breece Johnson (Pete), Connie Breece (Gail Sullivan), Tom Breece (Gail Glascoe Breece); her seven grandchildren Ally, Robby, Marisa, Angelica, Daniel, Noah and Joseph and her great grandchild Adam as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Alice is preceded in death by parents Marie Semerud Bilstein and Robert Thomas Bilstein, her three brothers Bob, Fred and Dick and her sister Marge. Alice enjoyed Scrabble, Cribbage, Bingo and loved her travels to Europe and Asia where in China, she walked on the great Wall of China. She mostly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. In her well-known manner of sharing and giving, she became a member of the University of Arizona Willed-Body program, where her remains were donated at her request. She was with her family when she passed peacefully on the morning of March 18, 2013. The family of Alice May Breece wishes to thank her friends, companions and staff at Westminster Village for the loving care they provided to our Mother in her final days. Not sure what to say?

Mother would have turned 103 on August 31, 2020! This year she would have been very saddened by the death of her dear nephew Tom Bilstein this summer, and very worried about the safety of all she loved during this Covid era. I miss her every day, yet know her soul has gone on to the next great thing.

To the Breece's and families

Cathe, I received your card and remember so wells itch happiness taking your mother to Korean village in Seoul while you were at work. Our daughter Eun Mi was 8 years at the time and birthday is same day as your mother. They had an instant connection and for years your mother sent her a card every birthday they shared. Eun Mi named your mother Ae Sook because she thought it sounded like Alice. Ae Sook has the meaning of Love in Korean. Eun Mi is at college now and I will send your card to her. Even though it has been a few years since we heard from her the pain is deep in my heart. I found the picture of you and Alice with Seung-Ho by our store and I will mail to you. Our deep sympathy to you and all family. Sueng-ho, Eun-Ah, and Eun Mi

Hello Breece Family Members--

Today the memorial booklet for your mother arrived; thanks to Connie for sending it. It is clear that Alice was a woman of accomplishment, and I think you have memorialized her very beautifully. I have let Ellen's siblings know that Alice is gone, and given them this e-mail address. You may hear from them. It is a blessing when one's mother lives to a great age and is lucid and healthy, as my mother, now 90, is. How wonderful it is to have good memories, as you all do. Doug

I would like you to know that Alice always has a special place in my heart, she was truly a remarkable woman, your title is well chosen. She was my second mom and I am appreciative of all that she did for me.

I still carry my four leaf clover everywhere with me, I can honestly say that is all that I have left from my teen years ( I kept only the best part) and all that I really need.

Thank you Connie for sending me the memorial pamphlet, even in her passing I continue to learn more about Alice, truly amazing...

Connie,
Thank you for sharing your REMARKABLE Mother with me when you came to town. You have been a most remarkable daughter giving her such care and support over these past years. Your memory card for her remembrance could not have been nicer. Many of us will share it with others who may not have known her, but with this creation, you, Tom, and Cathe are spreading her energy farther than you know.
But where is a picture of Alice playing scrabble??? I always think of her when mention of that game comes up. I bet you can make up any words you want in heaven!

To Chuck, Cathe, Connie, Tom,
I know you all know what a very special Mom you had. A very pleasant woman who was always willing to share her extensive knowledge to those who asked. She had her own style, a very caring neighbor and I always admired her care for her health. She was happy with who she was and what she wanted to become and she accomplished and experienced many great things with and in her life. She was 'one of a kind'!!

I had the chance of meeting Alice just once or twice. My husband was Wells Brown Grogan of Madison, WI and they had known each other in West Bend, WI in the early 1940's. Brownie, as he was then known, had been guarding the West Bend airport at night as a high schoool student in exchange for flying lessons. After graduating from high school, he joined the Air Force and flew flying fortresses from a base in Italy during World War II. They connected again just about ten years ago on Cape Cod where my husband and I had retired and her daughter brought her to the Cape to see Brownie. It did not take long to see what a wonderful person Alice was. The joy on both their faces when they were remembering some of their contacts in West Bend was marvelous to see. I did not know that she had been overseas during the war and all her other accomplishments. It is sad to have someone leave us who has had such an appreciation for life. Brownie was taken from us suddenly on December 7, 2010. May you be comforted by the many good memories you have for Alice. Helen Grogan, Orleans, MA

Dear Pete and Cathe,

I am very sorry to learn that Cathe's mom has passed away. Reading about her, made me a bit jealous: I wish that I had been on of the lucky ones to know her and treasure her friendship. It is never easy when somone from the realm of our daily physical existance to the next placed, but none the less they are always still with us and within us.

Dear Cathe and Pete

We send our compassionate sympathy in this time of mourning for your dear Mother, Cathe. The obituary that you sent describes an extraordinary human who must have been such an inspiration to her children and theirs, and to whole communities of fellow citizens through her wartime service and the youngsters and parents she served as a teacher, a model American who surely typified the "greatest generation". She must have surrounded you these many years with devoted love and shared much happiness. God Bless these memories that will dwell in your souls forever.

Love,
Norm and Vickie

To me, Alice Breece allowed, encouraged, fostered us to be "childlike". Alice is that person, that comes into your life who understands that life is to be enjoyed, filled with humor, while persuing the serious. We, especially I, at Westminster Village, were incredibly, fortunately Blessed with Alice.

I am a member of Triummphant Cross Lutheran church in Trotwood, Ohio and
remember Alice very much when she attended. She always had a smile on her face and a pleasure to be with. It was nice when her daughter sent us her picture and new address before Christmas last year. It sounds like
she lived a full life and was a pleasure to know. I will share this
news with members and Triumphant Cross today.
