Anne Catherine Eckenrode FORBES(1917 - 2014)


News Death Notice

FORBES, Anne Catherine Eckenrode beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and wife passed away peacefully on July 26, 2014 at the age of 97. She was born February 16, 1917 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, one of six children of Edward R. Eckenrode and Eleanore Sarah Eckenrode, graduated from Catholic (now McDevitt) High School and attended Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia. Anne married the late Robert Charles Forbes in 1942 and started her life as an Army wife, which she regarded as her career. She lived in cities and Army posts in the United States and Europe, including Germany, England, Turkey, Kansas, New Jersey, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Her love of travel continued after Robert's retirement as they visited more than 20 countries on cruises in Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, and Latin America and as distant as Antarctica. Most recently she resided in Kettering, Ohio and with her husband after their retirement from the Army in Catonsville, Maryland and Atlanta, Georgia. Anne is survived by four children: John (Evelyn) of Manila, Philippines, Robert (Patti) of Dayton, Ohio, Betsy (Steve Carter) of Gig Harbor, Washington, and Mike (Susie) Forbes of Durham, North Carolina. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Cindy, Danny, Michelle, Christian, Lisa, Brian, Doug, Clayton, James, Katie, and Adam; twelve great grandchildren: Brittany, Ashleigh Rowles, Nicholas, Ashleigh Johnson, Loukas, Cameron, Cale, Addison, Lily, Carter, Payton and Caroline; many nieces and nephews; and one sister, Dottie Schmitz of Seattle, Washington.
