Billye Kay PRATHER

News Death Notice

PRATHER, Billye Kay age 69, of Miamisburg, OH, passed away peacefully at Hospice of Dayton, on December 2, 2013, after a 16 month battle with metastatic esophageal cancer. She was born on May 20, 1944, the youngest daughter of Bill & Bonnie (Rabold) Prather. Billye graduated from Miamisburg High School in 1962 where she was a member of the National Honor Society, English Honorary, Junior Council on World Affairs, and played alto sax in the band among other activities. In her senior year, she received the ECK Memorial Trophy, which went to the outstanding band member each year, In 1966, she graduated from the Ohio State University and moved to New Mexico where she taught Spanish and History at Los Alamos High School. In 1973 she married Stanley Gamsby. In the early 80's they moved to Morgantown, WV, for Stan's job and Billye changed careers, obtaining her Real Estate and Broker's Licenses. They both loved and missed New Mexico and after several years moved back, settling in Albuquerque. In 1995 Billye returned to Miamisburg to be near her family. She befriended and tutored families from South Korea, Mexico and Ecuador, teaching them English and helping in many ways. She also tutored at Fairmont High School and the Kumon Learning Center. She was a wonderful woman, generous, smart, funny, talented, hard working and an extremely avid environmentalist. She was a great cook and photographer, and had the greenest of thumbs. She loved opera ~ especially Placido Domingo, tennis ~ especially Roger Federer, Timothy Olyphant, Colin Firth, Daniel Day-Lewis and Clive Owen (just because they're so fine) and old westerns. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Billye is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, several cousins and her ex-husband. She is survived by her sisters and brother-in-law, Carol Singleton of Orlando, FL and Bonnie "Suzy" and Clif Hertlein of Miami Twp; her beloved niece and nephews, Lisa Hertlein of Miamisburg, John & Cathy Kidwell of Orlando and John Hertlein and his wife Annie McLaughlin of Ft. Collins, CO. She is also survived by her great-nephews, and great-nieces and their families, Stan's children and grandchildren, special cousins and many dear friends, especially Ricardo Rodriguez and his family. We would like to thank Hospice of Dayton for taking such good care of Billye in her final days, Dr. Mark Romer, Dr. Rebecca Paessun, the chemo nurses and the entire staff at the Greater Dayton Cancer Center, Dr. Bethwel Raore and the staff at Miami Valley Hospital, Kingston of Miamisburg, Dr. Lisa Stone of Dayton Gastroenterology, Dr. Sarah Hussain of Miamisburg Family Practice and her kind and helpful neighbors, Mark & Kim Williams and their family. Billye reqested there be no visitation or funeral service.
