Diane Dolores (Zurey) DODD

News Death Notice

DODD, Diane Dolores (Zurey) 64, of Butler Township entered her Eternal Home on February 12, 2014, at Hospice of Dayton, after a 3.5 year struggle with metastatic breast cancer. She was born January 3, 1950, in Paterson, New Jersey, the daughter of Edward and Olga "Dolly" (Toth) Zurey of Fair Lawn, New Jersey and late of Dayton, Ohio. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Fairleigh-Dickinson University, Teaneck, New Jersey, in 1971 and worked for several years as a mathematician and computer programmer at the Foreign Technology Division at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base before becoming a full-time homemaker. She was a skilled seamstress, craftswoman, and cook, a Girl Scout troop leader for many years, and active in a number of local prayer groups and ministries. She was beloved by and an inspiration to many for her continued faith, courage, and strength during her illness. She was predeceased by her parents and by several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by her husband of 41 years William J. Dodd of Butler Township; her daughter and son-in-law Dr. Rebecca Dodd and Dr. Samuel Stephens of Durham, North Carolina; her grandchildren and great joy Nathaniel Zurey Stephens and Charlotte Lucia Stephens of Durham; her brother and sister-in-law, Capt. Edward Zurey Jr, USN (Ret), and Linda Kelly, of Bozeman, Montana; a maternal aunt, Emma (Toth) Zurey of Garfield, New Jersey, a niece and nephew, Andrew and Amanda Dodd of Connellsville, Pennsylvania, and numerous cousins. For their dedicated care during Diane's illness, her family expresses sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, aides, and staff of Hospice of Dayton; Dayton Physicians, LLC; Family Physicians of Englewood; and Duke Cancer Center, Durham, North Carolina. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 pm Monday, February 17, 2014, at Baker Hazel & Snider Funeral Home, 5555 Philadelphia Drive at N. Main St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at St. Rita of Cascia Catholic Church, 5401 N Main St, by Father Jim Seibert C.PP.S.
