STAUB, Diane Heckert Age 85, of Centerville, Ohio. Died Feb. 25th 2014, born Aug. 12, 1928 in Dayton, the Daughter of Frederick and Charlotte (Lane) Heckert. Diane graduated from Oakwood High School in 1946 and from Western College for Women in Oxford, Ohio in 1950 majoring in English Literature. After graduation she worked for the Dayton Daily News as a reporter, and later as a feature writer until the mid 1960's. From 1955 to 1974 Diane was married to Walter Allen of Troy. When he became a faculty member of the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana Illinois, in 1967 she relocated with him and spent the next 25 years of her life there. In the early 1970's Diane began working with the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). She became a proof reader and editor for the organization's publications, and was involved in the planning and running of its yearly conventions. Diane retired from NCTE and returned to Dayton in 1992 upon her marriage to Albert (Bert) Staub. Preceded in death by her parents and first husband, she had no children of her own but was a loving step mother to Bert's three sons Christopher of Kettering, Thomas of Centerville, and Bert D. of Tipp City, Ohio, and grandmother to Erin Staub of Knoxville, Tennessee, and David and Daniel Staub of Tipp City. An informal celebration of Diane's life will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 PM Saturday, March 8th at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME - FAR HILLS CHAPEL, 5471 Far Hills Ave. at Rahn Rd, Kettering, Ohio 45429. The celebration will immediately be followed by a brief memorial service. Burial will be private the following week at Woodland Cemetery, Dayton.
