STICKNEY, Frank Alexander age 83 of Xenia, OH passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2012. Frank was born on August 9, 1928 in Hartford CT. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Stickney. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Michael and Rachel (Evans) Stickney, grandchildren Alexander and Caroline Stickney, all of Springboro; significant other Elizabeth (Lucie) Lang of Xenia; many Wright-Patterson AFB and Wright State University colleagues, and wonderful friends. Frank earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Boston University, an MBA from AFIT, and a PhD from The Ohio State University
. Frank served over 21 years in the Air Force before retiring as a Lt Colonel in 1972 and becoming a full-time faculty member at Wright State. In 1977 Frank achieved the title of full Professor of Management. teaching graduate and undergraduate capstone courses in General Management Theory, Systems Management , and Strategic Management. Frank became so closely associated with those courses that for decades it was just assumed that if you had an MBA from Wright State, then you had Frank for the capstone MBA. Over the years Frank was awarded numerous awards which include the " College Students Award for Outstanding Teacher of the Year", "WSU Alumni Association Teaching Excellence Award", "NCR Stakeholders Award" and the "Presidential Leg of the Stool Award for Excellence in Teaching". The Leg of the Stool Award signifies selection as the Wright State University faculty member making the greatest contribution to teaching in the academic year. After 27 years of teaching, consulting, and presenting training programs, Frank retired for the first time in 1999, but retirement didn't last long. Approximately two months later Frank returned as an Emeritus Professor of Management and adjunct taught from Oct. 4, 1999 to July 31, 2002 before retiring for the final time. Always a strong believer in higher education, in 1989 Frank and his wife established the "Barbara Kirk Stickney Scholarship in Management", which has awarded 45 scholarships in the years since. Even in his retirement, Frank continued his involvement with and support for Wright State, looking forward to and attending the annual scholarship reception and the yearly Raj Soin dinner. Frank was a fervent supporter of Beta Gamma Sigma at WSU, a steady supporter of the Department of Management, and a contributor to many charities. He enjoyed traveling to many different countries around the world. Frank was an avid Ohio State football fan, attending 100+ games and watching numerous others on television. In his later years, whenever family and friends came to visit, you could hear the familiar "Go Bucks" or "OH-IO" ring out in Frank's presence. The pride and joy of his life were his grandchildren, Alex and Caroline. He was very proud of them, and delighted in their accomplishments. A memorial service is planned for 10 AM on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the Catholic Campus Ministry Chapel at Wright State University. Following the service, a gathering will be held at the Wright State University's Nutter Center, Berry room.
