George L. "Smokey" SENDELBACH


News Death Notice

SENDELBACH, George L. "Smokey" age 82, of Clayton, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014. He graduated from Chaminade High School in 1949. George served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War at Fairchild Air Force Base, building cameras for the planes. He was also a lifetime member of the Sampson Air Force Base Veteran's Association. George retired from Xerox Corporation after 28 years as a technical representative to take care of his wife. He loved gardening, listening to his favorite music from Andre Rieu, baking and most of all woodworking. He always said, "Give me a piece of wood and I'm happy!" He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Theresa and John Clayburn of Clayton, brothers: James (Joan) Sendelbach of Dayton, William (Marilyn) Sendelbach of FL, sister: Nancy (Paul) Reinman of Troy, grandchildren: John and Tara Clayburn, Megan and Mike Evans, great grandchildren: Preston and Robert Clayburn, Abbey and Emma Evans, many nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and his dog companion of 10 years: Sam. He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years: Frances (Sabo) Sendelbach, parents: Ed and Marie (Brun) Sendelbach, infant sister: Mary Lou, brother: Robert and grandson: Matthew Clayburn. The family would like to thank Hospice of Dayton, both inpatient and home care, and First Light Home Health Care for their excellent help in allowing George to be in his home to the last. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at St. Christopher Catholic Church (435 E. National Rd., Vandalia) with Fr. Francis Keferl as celebrant. Interment will follow the service at Calvary Cemetery in Dayton. The family will receive friends on Friday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Kindred Funeral Home (400 Union Blvd., Englewood).
