News Death Notice
JONES, George Willis 92, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2013, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, OH. He was born on February 22, 1920 in Rawson, OH to Zay and Ola (Palmer) Jones. George grew up in Tipp City, OH. He joined the Army Air Corp, where he served as a gunner on an A20 bomber during World War II. He was shot down over France, rescued and hidden by a French family for six months until liberation. He received many medals including a Purple Heart. Upon return from the war, he married and graduated from the Dayton Art Institute. George then pursued a career in finance, working for Winters Bank, Peoples Bank and retired as Treasurer of Dayton Forging and Heat Treating. His many interests included oil painting, wine making, landscaping, billiards at the Kettering Rec Center, euchre card groups and spending time with family and friends. He will be best remembered for his razor-sharp wit, the twinkle in his eye, his love of nature and animals, and the ability to find humor in everything. George was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Norma (Masnaghetti) Jones, and his siblings Paul, Tom, Marguerite, Lorren, Leonard, Irma, Lois, Vernice, Betty, and Dwayne. George is survived by his daughters, Jacquelyn (Tom) Rose of Washington Township, OH and Janet (Rob) Jones-Reul of Minneapolis, MN; his brothers Zay (Doris) Jones and Bob (Bea) Jones, his sister Joan Kirk; his grandchildren Jim (Cyndi) Bodner, Laura (Darren) Elking, Greg (Amy) Rose, Wesley and Madeleine Reul; his great-grandchildren Cayla and JT Bodner; brother- and sister-in-law Frances and Jim Heakin, Jean Johnston, Kenny Moore, Esther Jones, cherished friends Jim Thompson and Dr. Kent Scholl, and many loving nieces and nephews. George donated his body to the Wright State University School of Medicine. An open house to celebrate his wonderful life will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013, from 2-5 p.m. at the home of his dear friends, Bill and Kim Janes (365 Estates Drive, Centerville, OH 45459). In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Kyle's New Hope Animal Rescue (11734 Conrey Road, Cincinnati, OH 45249).

My mom (Lois) told us endless stories about Uncle George over the years. She adored him, kept his picture next to her bed her last years. Uncle George was one in a million. We will miss him.

My favorite Uncle! You will be missed! Jackie and Janet, Our thoughts and prayers are with you. I will always remember all the fun times we had together as kids. All the funny stories he told us I still tell them today! I loved it when my mom would say to me, " You have your Uncle Georges blue eyes, and you act just like him!"
