James G. (Butch) HAIRSTON


News Death Notice

HAIRSTON, James G. "Butch" Of Dayton passed Saturday, May 4, 2013. He was born on Dec. 31, 1950 in Beckley, West Virginia to Evelyn (Neely) and James G. Hairston Sr. James graduated from Roth High School. He was drafted #1 by the St. Louis Cardinals and played five years Class A Ball. He graduated with a bachelor's degree from Ohio University, and earned two master's degrees from The Ohio State University. He served in the Air Force Reserve. He retired after thirty-three years in supervision from Montgomery County Children's Services as a manager. James contributed many hours of service to his church and community. He was a devoted member of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, faithfully serving in many capacities. He served as a coach and administrator for First Dayton Little League and after retirement worked with Wesley Community Center. He was a life member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. To cherish the memory of his life, James leaves his loving parents Evelyn and James Sr.; beloved wife of 32 years, Marilyn Meriwether Hairston; his daughters Patrece Gabrielle Hairston and Mary Jayme Hairston; and many beloved family and friends. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, 5301 Free Pike. Father Benjamin Speare-Hardy II, celebrant. Visitation will begin at 11am. Interment Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Margaret's Episcopal Church Building fund. HHRoberts.com
