Jerome Edward (Jerry) VANSCHAIK


News Death Notice

VANSCHAIK, Jerome (Jerry) Edward age 77, passed away April 24, 2013 from cancer. Jerry was born in Dayton on February 17, 1936. He was the youngest of 11 children born to Dutch immigrants John and Marie VanSchaik. Besides his parents Jerry was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Al, Joe, Ted, Betty, Marie, and very special sister Agnes. Jerry was a member of the United States Army and was retired from the Ohio Telephone Company. Jerry loved watching the Reds and the Bengals, eating ice cream, and playing the lottery. Jerry was a great friend to many and never knew a stranger. Jerry is survived by his wife of 33 years Phyllis; daughter Teresa Eitel; son Larry Phibbs; grandchildren Jacob and Caleb Eitel and Joshua, Morella, Liberty, and Liam Phibbs; mother-in-law Geneva Martis; brother John VanSchaik; sisters Rita "Susie" Cook, and Eileen Baldridge; many nieces and nephews but especialy Jan Osenkowsky, Amanda Broaddus, and Albert "Butch" VanSchaik. It was Jerry's wish to donate his body to Wright State University's Anatomical Gift Program. Per Jerry's request there will be no services. Donations may be made to the in Jerry's memory.
