News Death Notice

KIRLANGITIS (Braas), JoAnn Gail (age 74), was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her beloved husband Jimmy Kirlangitis on 27 December 2012 after a short and courageous battle with cancer. JoAnn was born 18 January 1938 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Thomas and Jayne Brass. JoAnn met her husband Jimmy on a blind date while he was a Marine stationed at Camp Pendelton, California. He transferred to the Air Force shortly after they were married in 1957. They had three children, Jeff, Jody and Jane and spent the next 22 years raising their loving military family and traveling the world. After retiring from the Air Force at Wright Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio they spent the rest of their lives in New Carlisle, Ohio. JoAnn and Jimmy were actively involved in the Greek Orthodox Church, Dayton, Ohio. Jimmy passed away in 2007 after 50 years of marriage. JoAnn spent the last five years enjoying her Daughters, Jody and Jane with their families in the New Carlisle, and Dayton, Ohio area, and spent a few summer weeks and the Christmas holidays visiting her son, Jeff and his family in Dallas. Everyone affectionately knew her as Yia Yia (greek for grandmother). JoAnn/ Yia Yia was a caring, loving and a compassionate Christian woman. She loved her family and friends, she enjoyed reading, and shopping for bargains and playing with her cat. She touched all of our lives in a positive and everlasting way. She will be deeply missed. She leaves to cherish her memory, son Dr Jeffery & wife Dr Lisa Kirlangitis, of Colleyville, Texas; daughters; Jody & husband Eric Ramsey, of New Carlisle, Ohio; Jane & Mark Smith, of Dayton, Ohio; grandchildren Lauren & Lindsey Kirlangitis; EJ Ramsey, Julia and husband Tim Cook; Kyle and wife Ashley Smith; Ryan and wife Tonya Smith, Tyler Smith; great grandchildren, Anthony J Wolf-Smith, Jayden Smith, Masyn Smith, and Riley A Cook; brothers Tim & wife Jacqueline Braas and Van Braas, along with several niece and nephews. Burial and graveside service will be handled by TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, DUNBAR & FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, New Carlisle, Ohio @ 10:00am on 2 January 2013. Burial will be in New Carlisle Cemetery. The family expresses great gratitude to the Nurses and Doctors at Kettering Memorial Hospital, Kettering, Ohio for their compassion, love and care.
