Joel E. "Muff" CARSON


News Death Notice

CARSON, Joel E. "Muff" was born the son of Charles Pettigrew, Sr. and Johnella (Carson) Pettigrew on January 5, 1943; he was preceded by his parents and grandparents , Cecil and Lena (Kuykendall) Carson and his siblings, Claudia Glenn, Hilkiah Glenn, and Marylena Boyd when he died on November 6, 2012. Born in Piqua, Ohio, Joel spent the early years of his life in Morgantown, KY and Warren, OH with his grandparents and attended Jewell Academy, Nashville, TN. As a young man, Joel moved from Deerfield Beach, FLA to Dayton, OH and attended the Church of God , the Pillar and Ground of Truth, where his mother was Bishop. Joel later married Ida Ridgeway, and together they attended Deliverance Temple Ministries International under Bishop Benjamin and Apostle Sheila Morrow. Joel loved the Lord and his church which he served faithfully as a Trustee, president of the Deacons Board, chairman of the Men's Fellowship, the Pastor's Aid group and was a faithful worker on the kitchen staff. Joel retired from General Motors (and Frigidaire) with 34 years of service. He then worked at the Dayton Marriott for fourteen years as a Banquet Supervisor and also catered for his friends. He leaves many loved ones to cherish his love and memories, including his loving wife, Ida Carson; son, Joel Carson, Jr.; brother and sisters, Charles Pettigrew, Jr. and Bathsheba Glenn of Deerfield Beach, FLA, Amanda (Monroe) Daniels; step-brother, Eddie Bonner of Dayton, OH. and blended family: Hurel Ridgeway, Felicia Jacobs (Perry Nay lor) of FLA, Rodney Ridgeway, Shavawn Ridgeway, and Roger Ridgeway, Jr; their thirteen (13) children and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Joel's family is most grateful for the caring services rendered by Hospice of Words cannot truly express the feelings of appreciation for the support of Dr. Redding, Brad, Rachelle, Dena, Bridgette and Rev. Kevin Wardlaw. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, November 11, 2012 from 4pm to 8pm at Deliverance Temple, 46 E. Nottingham Rd., Dayton, OH 45405. The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 12, 2012, 11:00am at Maranatha Christian Fellowship Church, 4501 wolf Rd., Dayton, OH 45416 with a viewing from 9am to 11am. The family will receive visitors one hour before the service. Interment at West Memory Gardens, 6722 Hemple Rd., 45418. Services entrusted to the BOWMAN FUNERAL CHAPEL
