News Death Notice

MOTE, Mary M. age 90 of Kettering, passed away February 15, 2014 at Walnut Creek Nursing Home. Mary Margaret Scanlon was born March 26, 1923 in Detroit, MI to the late James Joseph & Gertrude Edith (Frizzell) Scanlon. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Clarence D. (Pete) Mote. She lived in Cincinnati, OH for a number of years and graduated from high school there. She moved to north Dayton in 1941 and then to Kettering in 1953. Mary worked in the Food Service area of two Kettering schools, Meadowlawn Elementary and Fairmont East High School. Margie and Pete moved to Tucson, AZ in 1979. Mary worked in the Food Service area at the University of Arizona until she retired in 1988. Mary returned to Kettering in 2003 after her husband's death in 2000. Mary is survived by two daughters: Beverly S. & Richard Gilewitz and Shirley A. & William Hollis; four grandchildren: Sara (Hartshorn) & husband, David Everman, Chris & wife, Lena (Gilligan) Hartshorn, Jeff Hollis and Greg & Casie (Leach) Hollis; five great-grandchildren: Ben & Alex Everman, Molly Hartshorn and Allison and Rory Hollis. She is also survived by a cousin, Janet & Charles Ellis. Other than her love of family, Mary's interests were in cooking and reading. She was an avid reader.
