News Death Notice
GREGORY, Richard Age 78 passed away peacefully at Miami Valley Hospital on June 1, 2014 after a long illness. He was born in his grandparent's farm house in Center Twp. On May 13, 1936. He was raised in Janesville, WI. Richard spent over two years in Shriner's Hospital in Chicago, IL having multiple surgeries to fix his club feet. He attended Drake University in Des Moines, IA graduating in 1959. He worked as a social worker in welfare offices in Algona, IA and Cedar Rapids, IA. He attended Indiana University where he received his Masters of Social Work after which he was employed as a Social Worker for the Linn-Muscatine County School System in Davenport, IA. For several years, he taught Social Work at Ohio State and Wright State Universities. He retired from Eastway Corporation in 1993 after serving as head of Forensic Services for eight southern Ohio counties. He was a 50 year member of good standing with the Grand Lodge of Algona, IA. He belonged to the Antioch Masonic Temple of Dayton, OH. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a loving teacher, friend, brother-in-law, husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Blanche [Fuller] and Richard Edward Gregory. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy R. Gregory, his son, David Gregory and his daughter-in-love, Liz. His daughter, Angela Mikonis and son-in-love, Chip and son, Brian Gregory and daughter-in-love, Michelle. He is survived by his loving sister-in-love, Joan E. Anderson and loving sister-in-love, Susan Steinle and her husband, Del. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Lexi Vornberg, Nicholas and Vincent Short, Marisa and Mitchell Mikonis and Lauren and Sela Gregory. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to The Shriner's Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 8, 2014 from 10-11 AM at Newcomer Funeral South Chapel (3940 Kettering, Blvd, Kettering, OH 45439). The memorial service will follow at 11 AM. I'm sorry to hear of Dicks passing. I did not realize all of what he did in his career since he was modest person. I always knew him as loyal DRAKE alum in the area. My condolences are extended to the family.

I worked briefly with Dick at Eastway. He was a wonderfully caring person with a great sense of humor. I'm sure you will miss him greatly, but you have many years of memories to treasure.
