DEMENT, Richard "Dick" Thomas age 88 of West Carrollton passed away peacefully on Friday, January 31, 2014 at Hospice of Dayton. Dick was born in Dayton, Ohio on November 8, 1925 to the late Russell T. and Leslie P. (née Massie) Dement. In his early years, Dick was the Assistant Pro Shop Manager at Miami Valley Country Club where he was also head caddy and instructor. Then WWII called and he served in the U.S. Army from July 1, 1944 to May 3, 1946, became wounded during the first wave of the Battle of the Bulge and earned the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct, E.A.M.E. with 3 battle stars, WWII Victory, and the Army of Occupation Medals. After the war, Dick started his long career in the tool and die industry first owning Kay-Dee Tool and Die, and then as one of the founding owners of Megacity Tool and Die. He was instrumental in forming Community Golf Course's longest lasting golf league, The Independent Tool League, which is in its 64th year. Dick was an active member of Brookville Masonic Lodge, F.& A.M., AASR Valley of Dayton, V.F.W. Post 3438, Miamisburg American Legion Post 165, Miamisburg Eagles and was a long time member of NCR Country Club. Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Emily A. Dement, parents, Russell and Leslie, stepson, Charles Robinette and granddaughter, Caroline Cathleen Dement. Dick is survived by his children: James (Sylvia) Dement, Deborah (Robert) Campbell-Dungan, and twins sons, Thomas (Julia) Dement and Ronald (Cherrie) Dement; his grandchildren: Christopher (Jennifer) Dement, Jaime (David) Dement-Berry, Emily (David) Dement-Suter, Joshua Dement, Rachel (Edward) Dement-Wilson, John (Amanda) Dement, Lonnie (Janean) Campbell, Chad (Lori) Campbell and Leslie "Abi" Dement; step grandchildren, Aaron and Danielle Robinette, Robert and Richard Dungan; great grandchildren: Noah, Jonah, Elijah, and Micah Dement (Christopher), Sebastian, Alastair, and Isolde Suter (Emily), Luna, Elara, and Castor Wilson (Rachel), Maya, Brock, Colby, and Ava Dement (Joshua), Nolan and Novalie Dement (John); Megan and Ryan Campbell (Lonnie), Kegan and Kaden Campbell (Chad); and, many friends. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at David's Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, 4600 Mad River Road, Kettering, OH 45429. Visitation will be at the Chapel from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420. Arrangements care of Sanner Funeral Home.
