News Death Notice

NEWCOMB, Robert Gail age 58, of Kettering passed away of a heart attack on January 31, 2014. A member of Fairmont East High School Class of 1973, he played Tuba and Sousaphone and was a member of the NCR Band from 1970-73. Robert attended Wright State University and received a BS Degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1978. He was employed by Kroger's for 18 years and was a valued member of the Bellbrook Night Crew. Robert was a proud member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, and the Prairie Aviation Museum. He especially enjoyed his nearly 40 year membership in the SingleVine adult group of Fairhaven Church. Robert was an aviation history buff and avid photographer of historical aircraft, which he enjoyed visiting through air shows around the country. He loved working on and around airplanes, and was a pilot himself, completing a solo flight as he prepared for his Sport Pilot license. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Robert P. and Julia G. (Butt) Newcomb. He is survived by his sisters, Patricia Newcomb of Kettering, Pamela (Derek) Brereton of Adrian, MI and Julia (William) McBee of Rockville, MD, multiple cousins throughout the Midwest, and many friends and work associates. A Remembrance and Celebration of Robert's life will be held at Routsong Funeral Home in Kettering on Sunday March 2, 2014 at 2 pm with a reception for family and friends to follow at the funeral home.
