News Death Notice

OATTS-WILLIAMS, Wanda Karen age 60, of Dayton, departed this life on Thursday, February 20, 2014. She was the fourth child born in New York City on January 2, 1954 to Calvin G. Williams Sr. and Jane Jones Williams. Wanda attended Walton High School in the Bronx, New York. She continued her studies at Lehman College and received her undergraduate degree in Special Education at Wright State University, Fairborn, OH. Wanda received her graduate degree in Educational Administration at Xavier University, Cincinnati, OH. She was employed at the Dayton's Children Psychiatric Hospital, Grant Learning Center and the Good Samaritan Learning Center. She retired in the summer of 2012, following many years of teaching for Northridge Local Schools. She gave 36 years of service in the field of special education. After retirement, Wanda was a volunteer at the Brunner Literacy Center and substituted at the Northridge School System. Wanda is preceded in death by her father, Calvin George Williams Sr. and beloved nieces, Nicole and Kelly Williams. She leaves to cherish her memory; husband, Virgil Oatts; son, Aaron Oatts; mother, Jane Dunham; step-father, James Dunham of Los Angeles, CA; (4) siblings, Cynthia Williams of HI, Georgina Williams of White Plains, NY, Nikki Williams of Alexandra, VA and Kevin Williams (Jackie) of Mt. Vernon, NY, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many, many friends. Funeral service 11:00 A.M., MONDAY, February 24, 2014 at THOMAS FUNERAL HOME, 4520 Salem Ave., with Pastor Stan Tharp, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be sent to the Brunner Literacy Center, 4825 Salem Ave., Dayton, OH 45416.
