Leona CORNELIUS Obituary


News Death Notice

CORNELIUS, Leona Fay born August 16, 1933 in Beattyville, Kentucky to John and Hazel Rogers, went to God's loving arms on February 21, 2013. Preceded in death by one infant son, her brothers, Russell Glenn, Charles Odell, Roscoe Allen and Cecil Clay, Leona is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dale Cornelius; her children, Elnora Kay Hodgkins, Danny Dale Cornelius (Cindy), Jeanne Lynn Lyndsey and Allen Finley Cornelius (Tracy); 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives, friends, and neighbors, along with her special cousin, Ruth. She was a school bus driver for 14 years with the Vandalia-Butler City Schools and was known as "Leo." Leona was a wonderful and devoted wife and mother. She received the Holy Ghost at 17 years of age and continued to serve the Lord her entire life. She loved reading the Bible and talking about the Lord with anyone who would listen. She was devoted to her family and friends and will be greatly missed by family, neighbors and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm, Monday, February 25 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday (TODAY) from 4-6 pm. If so desired, contributions may be made to St Judes Children's Hospital or to the American Lung Association in Leona's memory.
