I'm sorry to hear that Mr Weikert passed away. I was one of his students at Van Buren. He was a great teacher and coach...truly a class act.

Coach Weikert did his best to teach me how to pole vault in 7th grade. I wasn't too good at it and I think it scared him every time I tried , but he was always vey encouraging. When I stuck to the short sprints he seemed relieved, but he let me decide. He was an excellent teacher and a very fine man. My condolences to his family.

Doug taught me everything I knew about coaching track, and his wife provided me with the best fudge recipe ever! What a wonderful man who obviously loved his students and athletes, but more importantly his wife and sons sitting in the stands watching Doug work his magic. I am deeply sorry for his loss. Doug's father, Richie, lived at Weikert's Grocery beside us on Race St. He and my brother Dean Matthews (Troy policeman) were best friends. A few year's ago, I had a nice visit with Doug's mom in Tipp City. Don Matthews

Thinking of the Weikert family and sending prayers of peace and comfort during your time of loss. On behalf of myself and my brother, I pay tribute to a remarkable man, teacher and coach. I remember Mr. Weikert as one of the most dedicated, enthusiastic teachers ever to serve Kettering Public Schools. He had a passion for encouraging kids to make the most of their potential and made a difference in the life of every student he touched. Heaven gained another angel.
