News Death Notice

HICKMAN, Betty L. (Hand) age 86, passed away suddenly on Friday, January 25, 2013. She was born in Dayton, Ohio on November 11, 1926. She attended Dayton Public Schools, Longfellow Elementary School and Roosevelt High School from where she graduated. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church for over seventy five (75) years and later united with Believers Christian Fellowship Church. She was a member of The Duke and Duchess Club for several years, and was a resident of the Widows Home of Dayton, Ohio since May 6, 2011. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Lucille Hand; (2) sisters, Ruth Hodge-Collins and Helen M. Hamlin; (2) brothers, Harold Hand and Max Hand; husband, Oscar E. Hickman, Jr. and son Kevin M. Hickman. She leaves to cherish her memories and celebrate her legacy; her daughter, Tara L. Willis; very devoted granddaughter, Donyell D. Willis (Eugene Hoover); (2) grandsons, Donte Willis and DeShawn Lewis; sister, Estella S. Hairston (David) and a host of nieces, nephews and friends, including special friends, Mrs. Virginia Cartwright and Mrs. Iola Baker. Betty will truly be missed by her family, former neighborhood friends and their children whom she cared for as if they were her own. Funeral service 1:00 P.M., THURSDAY, January 31, 2013 at BELIEVERS CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP, 1516 Salem Ave., with Reverend Dr. William E. Harris, Jr., officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment: Dayton National Cemetery.
