BORGWARDT, Charles Robert 87, passed away on Dec. 1, 2012, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton following a difficult illness. Born July 10, 1925 in Preble County, Ohio, he was an alumnus of Lanier High School and lived for many years in Eaton, Ohio, before establishing his permanent residence in Dayton, Ohio. Charlie is preceded in death by his wife Edna Borgwardt; parents, Charles D. and Oretha (Barnhart) Borgwardt; and brother, Kenneth Borgwardt. Beloved father and grandfather, Charlie leaves behind five children and their spouses to cherish his memory; Sunny and William Baker, William and Sue Wilson, Valerie Nixon and Lawrence Jones, David and Joanne Wilson and Gary Wilson; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He treasured his family and friends and will be greatly missed by them, other relatives, and his many friends. A member of the Bolivar Lodge Eaton, Ohio he was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a master Mason of the lodge. Charlie was a WWII veteran and served in the U.S. Army, 25th Infantry Division. He entered the service in 1943 and served in the Philippines and was ;part of the occupying forces in Japan until 1946. He was also a member of the American Legion. Charles was a longtime member of the Hillside Chapel in Beavercreek, Ohio, and also belonged for many years to the Evangelical United Brethren in Gratis, Ohio. An avid sports fan, he long followed the Cincinnati Reds as his favorite team. For more than 30 years, Charlie was employed at General Motors in Dayton, retiring in 1993. A memorial service will be held at the Hillside Chapel in Dayton on Jan 12, 2013. Donating his remains for medical study to Wright State University, Charlies ashes will later be interred with those of his adored wife, Edna, at Pleasant Knob Cemetery in Parkers Lake, Kentucky. Memorial contributions may be made in Charlies name to: Wounded Warrior Project of Honor Flight.
