News Death Notice

LEONARD, Delmar Paul 90, of Jefferson, TX., passed away April 14th, 2014 a week after celebrating his birthday with family and friends. He continued to give to all; laughter, love and joy that special day and showed everyone, as he always did in life, that we must live in the moment and grasp each day with wonder and excitement. He was born in Lee county Virginia to Joseph and Lula Leonard of Keokee, VA. on April 7th, 1924. Delmar was married to Lois Ruth Perry on May 31st, 1946 in Bristol, TN. at her grandmother's house. They spent much of their lives together in Dayton, OH. They believed in love and marriage, and always had, going as far as to send a letter to President Nixon on August 10th, 1970 asking for a congratulatory telegram or note, to be sent to Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Leonard to celebrate their fifty years of marriage. Delmar and Lois would also celebrate fifty years and more together, and are together again. Delmar Paul Leonard was enlisted in the Marine Corps on his birthday in April of 1943 and honorably discharged in May of 1946 after serving his country in World War II in the Pacific and China. He then entered the Richmond Barber School with Izaac Leonard in April of 1948 and went as far as to qualify as an Assistant Teacher of barbering in 1969 from the state of Ohio. He would later own his own barber shop, as well as his wife owning her own beauty shop in Dayton, OH. His life was full of love and dedication to others, and always striving to be better as evidenced in his remarks to teachers in high school on his report cards. Even being an A-B student he repeatedly let the teachers know his goal was to work harder and be better. He kept that philosophy throughout life: work harder and be better every day in everything you attempt. He is survived by his son, Leon D. Leonard, Sr. & wife Christy, brothers, Robert Kenton Leonard & wife Carol, Gerald Wayne Leonard & wife Lois and Lawrence Vernon Leonard & wife Shirley, sister, Shirley Jo & husband James all from Ohio. five grandchildren: Leon Leonard, Jr. & wife Carrie, James Leonard & wife Vickie, Becky Vancil & husband Scott, Tammie Dooley and Kellie Dooley, seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, Lacee Jane Leonard and Noah Caples.
