I have fond memories of Uncle Bud and Aunt Charlotte from childhood trips to Ohio from Connecticut when my Mom went to visit her family. After Grandpa Jergens passed away, it seemed like Uncle Bud filled his shoes, both in appearance and mannerisms. The last time I saw him was when he and Charlotte traveled to Connecticut to help celebrate my Mom's 80th birthday, five years ago, and he was just as I had always remembered him from those visits long ago, in many ways just like his father. May he rest in peace, with our Lord in Heaven.

I remember Uncle Bud from visits to the farm when I was a child. You lived a good long life and now may you rest. May God bless you.

Uncle Bud was a trip. I used to crack up listening to him and Dad argue about anything. The subject wasn't necessarily the key to the fun, it was the arguing back and forth.
I'll always remember their 50th wedding anniversary party. We ended up throwing cake at each other. That's what I liked about him. He didn't care about protocol. Uncle Bud was just Uncle Bud.
I can remember picking up 5 buchel baskets of walnuts out of my backyard and he was thrilled to have them! I just kept thinking in the back of my head "who in their right mind would want all those walnuts." Uncle Bud, of course!
The best thing of all was the suspenders. I guess you have to be a Jergens to understand but I can remember Grandpa wearing them and now his sons Uncle Bud and Dad now wearing them. Must be in the DNA!
Last but not least, Uncle Bud and Aunt Charlotte became expected guests on New Years Day to eat sauerkraut. It was the last time I saw him and I will always think of him on New Years Day.
Let the perpetual light shine upon him and may he rest in peace. Amen.

I knew Eugene J. Jergens, Sr. as "Uncle Bud." When I traveled as a kid with my family to visit my mother's relatives in Ohio, I always looked forward to our visit with Uncle Bud and Aunt Charlotte. It was guaranteed to be a wonderful, warm, loving, great time. I am comforted now by the thought that Uncle Bud was met at the gates of Heaven by his son Nick.
