News Death Notice

SAUNDERS, Jr., Harrison Age 97, born August 26, 1916 in Dayton, departed this life Friday, September 6, 2013 at Stonespring Transitional Care Center. He graduated from the first graduating class of Dunbar High School in 1936. He proudly served in the U. S. Army from 1942-1945 as a Construction Foreman. He dedicated several years at Dayton Malleable Iron Works and retired from G.H. & R. Foundry with over 30 years of service. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church. He was a good man who gave to many people and was well liked by all who came in contact with him. He also enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with his children. Preceded in death by his parents, Harrison Sr. and Abby Saunders; wife, Mary Sue (Jones) Saunders; son, Don Richard Saunders; three sisters. Harrison leaves to cherish his memory his sister, Virginia Lamb; sons, Marvin, Harrison III (Othea) and Gregory (Brenda) Saunders; daughters, Patricia (Charles) Shumate, Harriet (Melvin) Watson, Brenda Ralls, Sylvia Daniels, Pamela (George) Merriman, Marilyn Saunders, Deborah Carmichael; special and loving nephew, James Lamb, Jr.; devoted friends, Helen Merriman, Linda Ross, and Harvey Cook; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held 11 am Monday, September 16, 2013 at Believers Christian Fellowship Church, 1516 Salem Ave. Rev. William Harris officiating. Interment Dayton National Cemetery. Visitation from 9 to 11 am. Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 am. Arrangements entrusted to the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N.
