Watching Herb Semper lap runners at the Big 7 indoor two mile championship meets was very impriational to many high school runners and one of the main reasons I ran track at KU.

Herb was a true legend of KU track and cross country, and an inspiration to me. After meeting him for the first time in 1998 during a celebrated return visit to Lawrence, I was amazed to find a truly humble, gracious man who seemed embarrassed that a young runner should still idolize him. I was just as enamored with the man as I was with the running legend. He will be remembered fondly.

A lifetime of memories with Herb and Pat Bowers who both came to KU at the same time. They were both babysitters for me!

Herb was a hero to all of us who came after him as KU trackmen. Really enjoyed having him at our farm for the reunions in 2001 and 2002. Al and Sally Frame
