News Death Notice
COLLINS, Jean Diane age 62, of Xenia, Ohio, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Miami Valley Hospital. She was born August 12, 1950 in Dayton, OH the daughter of Elwood and Verna (Kelly) Jones. She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Richard T. Jones. Jean is survived by her husband, Balis Collins,Jr.; daughters: Leah (Hoa) Pham; Michelle (Robert) Bruce and Amanda Collins, all of Xenia; 6 grandchildren: Lauren, Colin, Cory, Kennedi, Adison, and Simeon; brothers and sister: Col. Elwood A. (Johnna) Jones II of FL; Daniel R. (Candy) Jones of Cincinnati; and Patricia I. (Mark) Shinkle of Xenia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. She had been a very active member of First Church of Christ in Xenia; and formerly of Bethel Lutheran Church of Bellbrook. She was very interested in mission work and helping others. She volunteered with the Caring Place, which provided meals for the homeless and the Kids Hope Program, thru Simon Kenton Elementary. She enjoyed traveling and spending time on the beach. Most importantly she loved her family and grandchildren. Jean was the recipient of a kidney donation in 2007 which extended her life and allowed her additional precious time with her family. It was her wish to assist other people in the same manner, and therefore, she has chosen to donate her organs to those in need. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Friday, September 14, 2012 at First Church of Christ, 441 Ledbetter Rd., Xenia with Pastor Andy Spencer officiating. Interment to follow in Middle Run Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8 PM at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to First Church of Christ or to Life Connections.
