News Death Notice

COLLETT, McKay "Mac" age 88, dies July 30, 2013 at Quaker Heights Nursing Home, Waynesville, Ohio. Born in Pelham, New York on January 21, 1925, Mac served in the Army during World War II with Cannon Company 116th Infantry during the Normandy Invasion. A 1949 graduate of Ohio State University, McKay received his bachelor's of science degree in agriculture and was a member or the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. At age 55, Mac retired from the DuPont Company, Wilmington, Delaware to take up as a gentleman farmer at the family homestead near Waynesville, Ohio. He was a faithful member of Jonah's Run Baptist Church and held many offices there, as well as being a long-term member of the Clinton County Farm Bureau and serving one term as its president. He was an avid sailor and ardent Reds fan. Mac is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Dianne (neé Venekamp) Collett, his children Virginia Green of Los Angeles, Cora Breuner of Seattle, and Daniel (Penny) Collett if Wilmington, Delaware; 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. McKay was honorary father to Jim (Jackielyn) Turner of Harveysburg, Ohio and Sherry (Ken) Spires if Centerville, Ohio; honorary grandfather to 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Cora (neé Cahill) and Maurice Collett, two sisters Jane Wilcox and Margaret Mayo-Smith, a brother Maurice Collett, his daughter Amy (Richard) Keppler, and honorary son Michael Turner. Visitation will be at Jonah's Run Baptist Church 9614 State Route 73 West, Waynesville, Ohio 45068 on Saturday, August 10, 2013 beginning at 10 a.m. Reverend Roger Hilbert will preside over the service at 11:00 a.m., with a graveside service immediately following. There will be fellowship and a thanksgiving meal at the church upon completion of all services. Floral tributes may be sent directly to the church on the day of the service.
