News Death Notice
NEARGARDER, Patricia "Patty" Ann (Elliot) 85, died Friday, May 10, 2013, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in Saint Marys. She was born September 3, 1927, in Wapakoneta, Ohio, the daughter of Richard Aloysius and Anna Adelia (Fisher) Elliot. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, George L. Neargarder, whom she married May 17, 1948, and he survives in Saint Marys. She is also survived by her children: Janet (Bob) Bassitt of Wapakoneta; James (Sylvia) Neargarder of Garland, Texas; Paula (Doug) Saintignon of Beavercreek, Ohio; George R. Neargarder of Arlington, Texas; Stephen (Tricia) Neargarder of Wapakoneta; Dr. Sandra Neargarder of Lakeville, Massachusetts. She is survived by 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her siblings: Jim (Ginny) Elliot of Kettering, Ohio; Jack (Rita) Elliot of Tempe, Arizona; Deane (Phyllis) Elliot of Wapakoneta and Joe (Marlene) Elliot of Wapakoneta. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her sister Helen Schaub; by her brother, Bill Elliot; her brother Thomas Elliot; daughter-in-law Robin Neargarder and a grandson, Cody Neargarder. Patty graduated from Saint Marys Memorial High School in 1945. After graduating, she was a bookkeeper and was employed part-time with the Saint Marys Bookkeeping Company and 66 Motor Inc. She was a very dedicated wife and mother, staying home full-time to raise her six children. In 1978, once her children were all in school, she was employed full-time as secretary of Holy Rosary School in Saint Marys. Starting in 1981, she served as secretary and bookkeeper to Father Leo Hoying at Holy Rosary Church in Saint Marys, Saint Remy Church in Russia, Ohio; Saint Denis Church in Versailles, Ohio and Holy Family Church in Frenchtown, Ohio. Her dedication to the church was admirable. She served on a number of church committees and was a past member of the Holy Rosary Church Choir. Patty played multiple musical instruments and had a beautiful singing voice. Her other hobbies included gardening, putting together jigsaw puzzles and spending time with family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 17, 2013, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the Reverend Barry Stechschulte, celebrant. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, where memorial gifts may be given to Friends of Holy Rosary.
