News Death Notice

BLANCHARD, Mrs. Portia J. (Mumford) passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 19, 2012. She was born in Buckhannon, WVA to the late John William and Victoria Louise Mumford. Portia retired from the Dayton Public School System where she taught the Deaf and Hearing impaired. She had been active in several organizations: W.VA. State College Alumni Association, Y-Wives Club, Garden Club of Dayton, College Women's Club, Tots and Teens and the Pineview Wives. She was a faithful member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church. Preceded in death by her husband, Chester A. Blanchard; grandson, Alex B. Bolden; (4) sister and (2) brothers. She leaves to treasure her memory, (2) loving and devoted daughters, Sandra L. Blanchard, of Dayton, OH and Karen (Al) Bolden, of Pittsburg, PA; much adored granddaughter, Kandra A. Bolden, also of Pittsburg, PA; (2) nieces, Irene Tucker of Baton Rouge, LA and Cathryn Mumford of Cleveland, OH; (2) nephews, Forney Mumford, Jr., of Cleveland, OH and Eric (Lynn) Mumford of Mesa, AZ; and host of great-nieces, great nephews, other relatives and many friends including special friends, Dorothy Weaver, Artence Walton, Phyllis Casey, Betty Young and Cynthia Wyatt. Funeral service 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at THOMAS FUNERAL HOME, 4520 Salem Ave., with Pastor M. Merritt-Worthen, officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Family would like to extend a special thank you to her wonderful nurse Yolanda Jenkins, aide, Kim Allen and Hospice of Dayton for their loving care and support.
