News Death Notice

SPAYD, Robert Vaughan age 84, passed away on March 22, 2011. Preceded in death by his parents, Milferd A. Spayd and Martha Vaughan Spayd, and his sister, Jeralyn Bielenberg. He is survived by his loving wife, Patty; his son, (Chip) Robert V. (Debbie) Spayd, Jr., step-granddaughters Jennifer, Erica and Ashley; daughter, Lisa (Reb) Bilinski; grandson, Alex Bilinski; niece, Debra (Kerry) Orrock, of Western Springs, IL and her children; niece, Linda (John) Louden of Los Alamitos, CA and her children, and many friends. Bob was a graduate of Oakwood High School 44 (president), served in WWII in the Navy 1945-46, Princeton University 49, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and Harvard Law School 52, cum laude. Bob began his legal career in Denver, CO 1952-55; returned to Dayton in 1955, was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1956, and was a partner in firms Turner, Wells, Granzow & Spayd 1958-1979 and Young & Alexander 1979-91. He practiced solo from 1992-2005, when he retired. He was a member of the Dayton, Ohio and American Bar Associations. Bob was legal counsel, secretary, director, Third National Bank & Trust Company and successor Society Bank (KeyBank) 1955-1996. Legal counsel, secretary and director of various other corporations, public and private. President, officer or trustee of various civic organizations including the National Aviation Hall of Fame, Childrens Medical Center, Dayton Art Institute Foundation, Big Brothers, Boys Club, Campfire Girls, Red Cross, Crime Stoppers and Montgomery County Juvenile Court Advisory Committee. He was a member of Dayton Bicycle Club, 49ers Club, River Corridor Committee, Moraine Society and Moraine County Club. Bob will always be remembered for his generosity, his good friendship and good counsel, his love of sports, the law and his country. A "Celebration Of Life" memorial service will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, May 21, 2011 , at Woodland Cemetery , 118 Woodland Avenue, Dayton, OH in the Mausoleum Chapel.

I will always remember the good times our families had growing up. Mom's love for you, her big brother, was such a source of strength for her and a testament to family. Glad you are together now. May you rest in peace Uncle Bob.

Your oldest Neeze, Debi, will always have a smile in her heart when remembering dear "ol' Unc. I made you a first Great Uncle and you were proud! You were always fun loving and mannered..and that voice...what a great voice. Love you and send my deepest condolences to Patti as she mourns and finds peace.

May god be with you in your time of sorrow. Alway's remember the good times the 2 of you shared together. Robert was a kind and wonderful man and will be missed. I miss you very much Patty and hope to reunite one day soon. Life is not the same without you.
