News Death Notice

RHODES, Toni DeCoux 86, passed away peacefully January 6, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, OH. Born Mae Rose DeCoux in Red Cross, LA on February 13, 1927, Toni was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved her family. She was known as "Tip" when growing up on the family "Homestead" and moved to Cleveland, OH in 1945. She worked as a licensed managing cosmetologist for many years and was a very good cook, known especially for her seafood gumbo. Toni is survived by her children, Jack Rhodes of Colorado Springs, CO and Toni E. Rhodes of Cleveland, OH; brother Alex DeCoux of Pflugerville, TX; sisters Evelyn Henderson of Baton Rouge, LA, Nova Lee Wedge of Colorado Springs, CO, Hilda Gardere and Ophelia Dauphin of Opelousas, LA, and sister-in-law Benette DeCoux of Dayton, OH; grandchildren, Peter Rhodes of Seattle, WA, Christopher Rhodes of Cleveland, OH, Jack Rhodes of Edwards AFB, CA, Janet Rhodes of Brooklyn, NY, and Elizabeth Lambson of Ithaca, NY; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; life-long friend, Mazie Malveaux of Baton Rouge, LA; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Toni was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl Nero and Alexander DeCoux; brothers Clyde DeCoux, Marvin DeCoux, Martin DeCoux, and James DeCoux; sisters Mary L. Boudreaux, Marie A. Smith, and Alma Duncan; and grandson Matthew E. Ogburn. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, January 17, 2014 in the Maria-Joseph chapel at 4830 Salem Avenue in Dayton, Ohio.
