News Death Notice

LEDFORD, Alyce F. age 94, of Franklin Township, OH, passed away, Tuesday, December 4, 2012 of natural causes at Garden Manor Nursing Home, in Middletown, OH. She was born in Franklin, on August 4, 1918 and graduated from Carlisle High School in 1936. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Elizabeth (Tewell) Leichty, her beloved and devoted husband, Willard in 2000 to whom was married for 63 years; her infant son, Charles; her brothers, Charles, Norvel, George; her sister (Victoria (Harp); and infant great-granddaughter, Alyse Thumann. She is survived by her son, Michael (Heidi) of Franklin Township and her daughter, Judy (John) Wilson of Germantown; 3 grandchildren, Catharine (Bryan) Jones of Franklin Township, Amy (Matt) Thumann of Cave Creek, AZ and Brian (Amy) Moon of Trenton, OH; 7 great-grandchildren, Olivia, Sophia, Erin, Ellie, Will, Taylor and Noah. She had a special bond with many boys who helped and lived at the family farm including Ray Adams, Al Barnes and Mike Van Deventer. Alyce was a very active participant in activities at Carlisle High School dating back to the late 1940's and 1950's in PTA and she helped, in her fifties, pioneer the Carlisle High School Athletic Boosters Club. She enjoyed for over thirty years, working for the Warren County Board of Elections in various capacities. She helped her husband Willard in his successful farming operation in Franklin Township for 28 years until they retired in 1974. The ultimate farm wife, she was known for her cooking, gardening and sewing skills. From the time of retirement until his passing in 2000, they resided at their home in New Smyrna Beach, Florida during the winters and at the family farm in Ohio in the summer months. She always felt fortunate to have almost forty years of retirement. The Ledford family would like to thank the many capable, hard working staff members at Garden Manor Nursing Home who provide such attentive and diligent care. Family and friends may call 10 a.m. - 12 Noon (2 hours prior to the Service) Saturday, December 8th, at the Dalton Funeral Home, Corner of State Route 4 & Weaver RD., Germantown, where the Funeral Service will follow at 12 Noon, with Pastor Jeff Foster, officiating.
