SAMPSON, Jr., Plummer A., PhD. RET. COL. USAF age 81, of Dayton, born March 15, 1931 in Laurel, Mississippi, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2012. His educational accomplishments include a BS & MBA from the University of Dayton and a PhD in Allied Health & Clinical Pathology from the Union Graduate School in Cincinnati, Ohio. He retired as Chief of Program Control at WPAFB. He defended the country during Desert Storm and retired from the US Civil Service at Wright Patterson AFB. He was a part time faculty member at Sinclair Community College for several years. Dr. Sampson's community involvement also included administrative roles at First Dayton Little League, where he was instrumental in the acquisition of a new baseball park. He served on the City of Dayton Priority Board for a number of years. Dr. Sampson was a faithful member of St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church. He was a lifetime member of the Theta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha. Preceded in death by his loving parents, Plummer and Lurline Sampson; and beloved baby brother, Wiley R. Sampson. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Marjorie M. (Haywood) Sampson; children, Michael L. Sampson (Carol), Michelle Sampson-Spencer, PhD. (Richard) & Stacey R. McKinney (Kelvin); beloved siblings, Mazie Sampson Jones, James C. Sampson (Ivy), Rev. Dr. Therman C. Sampson (Ethel), Ezell Sampson (Sharon), Clarence J. Sampson (Mary-Jo) & Dr. Charles L. Sampson (Joy); grandchildren, Tiffiny Vanjohnson, Christen Turner (Bryant), Shani Sampson Higgins (Melvin), Kelcey C. and Kyle McKinney; great grandchildren, Zoe, Gregory, Kameran, Lexi, Gabriel, Michael Lynn, Isaiah, Bryce and ; a host of family, friends and neighbors. A celebration of life will be held 1 pm Saturday, January 5, 2013 at St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church, 519 Liscum Drive. Fr. Francis Tandoh, C.S. Sp. officiating. Interment Woodland Cemetery. Visitation 12 noon Saturday at the church, at which time family will receive friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Plummer A. Sampson, Jr., PhD. Memorial & Scholarship fund.
