News Death Notice

BARR, Robert Walter age 88 of West Carrollton, passed away Tuesday, January 8 2013 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born October 4, 1924 in Miamisburg to the late Bruce and Catherine (Baker) Barr. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary M. (Deis) Barr (2010); a daughter, Pam Worthing (2003) and a son-in-law, Dan Ovel (2010). He is survived by his children, Charles (Louise) Barr of Yakima, WA, Ann Ovel of Wausau, WI, Richard (Shirley) Barr of Bellbrook and Janet (Kostas) Zafiropoulos of Spring Valley; ten grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Bob was a graduate of Miamisburg High School and shortly after entered the US Army serving with the 102 Infantry, Company G 405th. As a proud WWII veteran he began his service at the end of the Battle of the Bulge, fighting on the front lines to the Elbe River in Germany. He then became one of General Eisenhower's personal guards. Later, Bob retired from Delco Moraine and farming. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards, spending time with family, his dog, Bollie and being a jokester. The family would like to thank Hospice of Dayton and Father Aultz for their care. Family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Friday, January 11, 2013 and 9:30 - 10:30 AM Saturday, January 12 at Gebhart-Schmidt-Parramore Funeral Home, Miamisburg. Mass of Christian Burial will begin 11:00 AM Saturday, January 12 at Our Lady of Good Hope Church, Miamisburg. Burial with military honors by American Legion Post 165 will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Dayton following Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton at 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton OH 45420; at 1313 W. Dorothy Ln., Kettering, OH 45409 or a .
