Roland J. REICHEL Obituary

News Death Notice

REICHEL, Roland J. age 85, of Kettering, passed away February 5, 2013. Born to parents Lester and Irene Reichel, he grew up in North Royalton, OH. At age 17, Roland received certification as Chief Electrician on merchant ships during WWII and traveled the world. He received his Electrical Engineering degree from Cleveland Institute of Electronics in the early 1950's. During his professional career, he worked as a design engineer for Hickok Electronics, as Design Engineer for The Finney Antenna Company, and retired in 1994 as Wright State School of Medicine Facilities Director. Roland and wife, Diane, earned their private pilot's license and enjoyed many years of volunteering at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He enjoyed bicycling and sailing with his family. Roland also enjoyed astronomy and music, especially appreciating Classical and Jazz from the 1920's and 1930's. Roland was preceded in death by his parents and son, Dr. Gregory S. Reichel, DVM. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Diane; sons, Dennis (Cheryl) and Lee (Yvonne) Reichel; daughter-in-law, Dr. Wendy O'Desky-Reichel, DVM; and grandchildren, Taylor and Dean Reichel, Brandon Bostic, and Alex, Lilly and Sean Sexton. Roland is also survived by a host of dear family and friends. Services will be held on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at 2:00pm at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering, OH. Following the service family will greet friends until 5:30pm; also at the funeral home. Burial will take place Monday, February 11, 2013 at 10:00am at David's Cemetery, 4600 Mad River Rd.
