Maredell P. McCOMBS Obituary

News Death Notice

McCOMBS, Maredell P. age 97, of Englewood, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Stonespring of Vandalia. Born in Columbus, Ohio, Maredell moved to Cleveland as a young child, living on the same street for 63 years on the West side of Cleveland. Maredell worked in the Lending Department of the Main branch of the Cleveland Public Library System, retiring after 20 years of service. Whether it was chatting about her children and grandchildren that she adored or meeting with her Friday "lunch bunch", she made everyone feel welcome and comfortable. Her other interests included cooking, growing African violets, and writing. Her detailed journals date back to the 1920's, providing a wonderful history for her family. While in Cleveland, she enjoyed years of water aerobics with her close group of friends at the YMCA. Even with never having a driver's license, Maredell was very active and independent and didn't let any obstacles get in her way. Serving as the captain of her local voting precinct, Maredell was an advocate for voter rights in her community. Maredell was preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, Russell McCombs. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, sons, Russell Michael McCombs of Huber Heights and Bruce (Linda) McCombs of Holland, Michigan; sister, Ruth Lammerino of Illinois; grandchildren, Meredith (Rick) Wahl, Christopher (Beth) McCombs, and Jessica McCombs; 4 great-grandchildren; special friend Janee Walski; and many other friends and family. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the many friends who cherished Maredell, allowing her to enjoy life to the fullest. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, March 5th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with funeral services following at Marker & Heller Funeral Home, Huber Heights Chapel, 5844 Old Troy Pike with Chaplain Candy Null officiating. Interment in Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmsted, Ohio at 1 PM on Wednesday, March 6, 2013. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice in Maredell's memory.
