News Death Notice

RICE, Robert L. Age 67, of Dayton, passed away Wednesday, 27, 2013 in Punta Gorda, Florida. He was born December 15, 1945 in Cleveland, Ohio. Bob graduated from Meadville Area Senior High School in Meadville, PA in 1963, graduated from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA in 1967 and Ohio University in Athens, OH in 1969. He served on active duty with the U.S. Air Force from 1969-1982 and continued with the USAFR as an IMA at Wright-Patterson AFB until his retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1992. He retired from his civilian career at WPAFB in January 2000. Bob was a member of Sulphur Grove United Methodist Church since April 24, 1983. He served on the Board of Education, Mad River Local Schools, from 1991-1999 during that time he served as President, Vice-President and a board member. Bob was a member of the Air Force Association (Life Member), American Legion Post #200 in Huber Heights, Ohio, Military Officers Association of America (Life Member), National Defense Industrial Association (Life Member), Reserve Officers' Association (Life Member) and the Elks Lodge in Punta Gorda, Florida. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Donna C. Rice; children, Cynthia Leigh (Jim) Burnette and Carol Anne (Bryan) Collins; grandchildren, Douglas Lawrence Anderson III, Madeline Elaine Teague, Conner Ian Teague, Benjamin Richard Collins, William Robert Collins, Zachary Augustus Collins and Claire Annaliese Collins. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Charles M. and Winifred L. Rice; and a sister, Carolyn Mae Rice. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from 5-8 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (4104 Needmore Rd.) where funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 10:00 am with Pastor Dan Held officiating.
