News Death Notice

SCHWAB, Diana L. Reichert 71, of Beavercreek, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, May 8TH, 2013 as the result of an auto accident. Diana was born on April 28, 1942 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Justin and Annabelle Slyh Reichert. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry A. "Tim" Schwab, Jr. She is survived by her daughter Carey (Michael) Ker; granddaughter Chelsea Ker; sister, Jan Zwiren, sister Justine Reichert; and several loving and supportive nieces and nephews. Diana graduated from The Ohio State University in 1964 with a BA degree in education. She went on to earn her Master's Degree in Education from Miami University. She spent 27 years as a teacher, coach and mentor in the Kettering City school system. Her list of accomplishments includes winning 14 City Women's Amateur Golf Championships, medaling in the first USGA National Women's Public Links Championship, finishing as runner-up in the second USGA National Women's Public Links Championship, and twice winning the Women's Ohio State Golf Association Championship. Schwab in 1982 was elected to Dayton Amateur Golf Hall of Fame and served as regional affairs representative for the USGA. She also started the Dayton District Women's Golf Association in 1991 and was instrumental in founding the Ohio Women's Golf Association in 1979. She was a member of the Ohio High School Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the Fairborn Schools Hall of Honor. In March, 2002 she was recognized as a state legend by Golfweek magazine. She was recently awarded the 2013 Ike Grainger Award for individuals that have given 25 years of service as volunteers to the USGA. Diana loved working with young people and encouraged all she knew to learn and enjoy the game of golf. She was a wonderful mother and the best "Grammy" to her beloved granddaughter Chelsea. She will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 12th, 2013 and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 13th, 2013 at TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME - FAR HILLS CHAPEL, 5471 Far Hills Avenue, Dayton, Ohio, 45429. Funeral service 11:00 a.m. May 13th, 2013 at the funeral home. Burial immediately following at David's cemetery. The family will receive friends at Beavercreek Golf Club after burial.
