MODDEMAN, William (Bill) Ervin, PhD Completed his journey on earth on Saturday, September 14, 2013 surrounded by his loving family, after a brief courageous battle with cancer. Bill was born in Covington, Ky on January 7, 1941 to Ervin Moddeman and Elizabeth Roenker. He is survived by his of 49 years, Gail (Ortlieb), sons Mark and wife Tanga, Michael and wife Kathleen. Four grandchildren: Abigail, William, Jacob, and Nathan Moddeman. Sister-in-law Sue Cutler and husband Thomas Cutler of Plain City, OH and their three sons Joel (Elaine), Kevin, Kyle. One brother-in-law Thomas Ortlieb and his wife Annirene of Westerville, OH and their three children: Jeffery, Michael, and Corianne and their families. Also surviving are many cousins and friends. Bill graduated from Holy Cross High School, Latonia, KY (1959); Eastern Kentucky University (1963) with a BS in Chemistry and Mathematics; University of Tennessee with a Masters degree (1968); and a PhD (1970) in Physical Chemistry. He then proceeded to Vanderbilt University to complete two - year post-doctoral research with the Chemistry and Physics Departments. He was employed at UDRI, Mound Laboratories, and at Pantex in Amarillo, TX until his death. An avid sports fan, he coached baseball and basketball in Beavercreek and at St. Luke's and volunteered at Carroll High School. He was a true blue dedicated fan of the University of Kentucky. His ready smile and friendly attitude will be missed by all. Bill has mentored many young scientists over the years and thoroughly enjoyed and contributed much to science. He was a role model for many. The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM Friday, September 20, 2013 at TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd. at Grange Hall Rd. and at St. Luke Catholic Church from 9-10 AM Saturday, September 21, 2013/ Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Saturday at St. Luke Catholic Church. A great expression of Gratitude goes to the Nursing Staff at Miami Valley Hospital Oncology Unit, CICU, HV6, the Pulmonary Unit; also to Hospice of Dayton, Drs. Charles Bane, E. Ronald Hale, and Steven Chambers. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to William E.
