Michael (Mike) FITTEN-FITZPATRICK Obituary

News Death Notice

FITTEN-FITZPATRICK, Michael "Mike" age 65 of Dayton, departed this life on Monday, September 23, 2013. He was the oldest of four boys born to Rev. Emmaus Fitten and Louella S. Fitten in the city of Dayton, Ohio, on May 23, 1948. After his father was assigned to pastor of the Parkwood C.M.E. Church in Cleveland, OH in 1957, he spent all of his formative years in that city - attending grade school, Empire Junior High School, and Glenville High School. Growing up, Mike excelled academically; he loved playing football and especially baseball, but his passion from early on was music and singing. While at Glenville, he made All City Chorus, was a featured soloist on the high school record album, "The Spirit also Helpeth," attended the art conservatory for gifted students at the Chautauqua Institute of Music in Chautauqua, New York, and was given the distinct honor of enrollment at the Cleveland Music Settlement (a music conservatory for talented students of northeastern Ohio. Upon graduation from high school, Mike attended Miami University, Miami, Ohio, where he majored in math and music. He was preceded in death by his father, Emmaus Fitten, July, 2010. He leaves to cherish his memory; his mother, Louella Fitten; (3) brothers, Timothy, Steven, and Daniel; (12) nieces and nephews, (7) great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral service 11:00 A. M., SATURDAY, September 28, 2013 at THOMAS FUNERAL HOME, 4520 Salem Ave., with Reverend Anton Johnson (St. Phillips CME Church, Hamilton, OH), Officiating.
