News Death Notice
PRETZINGER, Catherine Collins ("Kate", unless you were mad at her), age 85, of Oakwood, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2014. Kate was born to Courtland M. and Dorothy M. (nee Dana) Collins on November 24, 1928 in Dayton, OH. She graduated from Oakwood High School in 1946 and received her BA degree in English from Capital University in 1950. Kate retired from the Epilepsy Foundation of Western Ohio after 15 years of service in 1993. She was a prolific reader, an avid watcher of the news, was politically astute and more than willing to share her views. Kate was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Pretzinger II; parents, Courtland and Dorothy; sister, Carol Collins and granddaughter, Kate Sawyer. She is survived by her children, Elise (Dale) Sawyer of Houston, TX, Steven (Whit) Pretzinger, John (Elizabeth) Pretzinger of Oakwood and Gail Pretzinger of Kettering; "adopted" son Greg (Carlen) Mandas of Redding, CT; Grandchildren, Laura (Charnel De Villiers) Sawyer of London, England, Matthew Sawyer of Houston, TX, Philip (Rebecca) Pretzinger of San Diego, CA and Elizabeth Pretzinger of Charlottesville, VA; Great-grandchildren, Charlie, Lucy and Henry Pretzinger; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins as well as her favorite cousin, Dick Collins. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Hospice of Dayton and Special Thanks to Ruby Sue Gadd for all the wonderful care she gave to Kate. A celebration of life and gathering will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2014 from 2pm until 5pm at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd. Kettering. In memory of Kate, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of Western Ohio, 11 W. Monument Ave. Suite 101 Dayton, OH 45402.
