News Death Notice

MYERS, Norma Elaine age 90 passed away on January 25, 2014. She was born to Raymond & Mary Fisher on November 6, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio. Norma grew up on Oakridge Ave. in Dayton, and she attended nearby Roosevelt High School until she began working at Wright Field to help support her family. Norma met her husband, Russell Myers, through a wartime correspondence program for orphaned servicemen. They married in 1946 and bought their first home in Northridge, later moving to Pleasant Hill. There, Norma opened Myers' Driving School, giving the gift of mobility to many women. Norma was quick to recall funny stories, especially from her teaching years. Norma and Russ finally settled on Main St. in W. Milton, where they raised their daughter Kathy. Norma kept house and Russ worked at Monsanto in Miamisburg. They also ran The Old Mill Exchange in W. Milton, dealing in antique lamps. She delighted throughout her life in a good find, hunting sea shells, morel mushrooms, berries, nuts and bargains. Norma was well served by her sparky, independent streak throughout 36 years as a widow. Stubborn and tough as ever, she could do anything she put her mind to. She was quick with a smile and made friendships with ease. Blessed with a wide group of friends, she kept active by sharing in her hobbies, especially travel, bowling, card games, golf, fishing and local clubs. She relished spending summers at her rugged cottage on the French River in Ontario, Canada. Norma was a prolific cook and her family and friends will remember the love she offered in countless meals. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Hemmerick and daughter-in-law Julie Webb; ex-son-in-law Kirk Hemmerick; grandchildren Jacob Hemmerick, Delia McMullen and grandson-in-law David; great grandchildren Helen, Grace and Max McMullen; siblings JoAnne Beach, Ed Fisher and sister-in-law Sue; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents; husband, and sister Thelma Lawson. A visitation will be held at Hale-Sarver Funeral Home (284 N. Miami St. in West Milton, OH 45383) on Tue. Jan. 28th from 4-8 p.m. and the funeral/mass will be held on Wed. Jan 29th at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Transfiguration (procession leaving from Hale-Sarver Funeral Home). Donations in lieu of flowers may be given to Hospice of Miami County, which allowed Norma to transition peacefully at home. Condolences may be sent to the family through Hale-Sarver.
