KLEPPER, Anna M. Sperling age 98, of Kettering, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2014. She was born in Springfield, OH on May 18, 1915 to the late Fred and Anna Sperling. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1933 and was married to Winfield S. Klepper in 1936. The Kleppers moved from Springfield to Mad River Township in the early 1940s and to Kettering, OH in 1965. Anna was ambitious, adventurous, and tenacious. Inspired by a favorite teacher, she was determined to attend college, to become a teacher, and to travel. Although her education was interrupted while her children were young, she reentered college when her youngest child began school and received her bachelor's degree from Miami University in 1959 in the same class as her daughter Ellen. Mrs. Klepper also earned an M.A.T. degree from Miami University. She taught German, English and French at Centerville High School from 1959 to 1975. She thrived on daily give and take with teens and was an enthusiastic adviser to the Centerville High German Club. She also spent several summers in Salzburg, Austria as a counselor in a German language study group. Anna enjoyed gardening, tennis, golf, bowling, swimming, and-after retirement from teaching-figure skating. She traveled widely in the United States, South America, Europe, and Asia. Favorite travel sites included Machu Picchu, the Galapagos islands, Tahiti, and a 35-day voyage to remote Atlantic islands. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and was an active participant at the Kettering Recreation Center. Anna was preceded in death by her loving husband Winfield Klepper, and by 4 brothers, 1 sister, 1 granddaughter, and 2 sons-in-law. Anna is survived by her children, Marian (Ralph) Kettering, Ellen (late husband Gerhard) Neumaier, David G. Klepper, Nancy Klepper-Kilgore (late husband Robert Kilgore), and John R. (Marilyn) Klepper; 7 grandchildren, 8 great- grandchildren, and 4 great- great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends from 10:00- 11:00am on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 East Stroop Road, Kettering followed by a funeral service at 11:00am. Burial will be in David's Cemetery.
