News Death Notice

BEARD, Barbara E. (Land) age 88, of Eaton, OH and formerly of Farmersville, OH, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Greenbriar Nursing Center after a long illness. She was born August 25, 1925 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Lester and Gladys (Reason) Land. She retired in 1987 from Standard Register in Dayton, OH where she worked for many years as a secretary in the Engineering Division. She had previously worked at the Dayton VA Center and Moraine Products. She graduated in 1943 from Jefferson Twp. High School, Montgomery County, OH and attended Otterbein College and University of Dayton. Barbara was an avid reader and enjoyed writing and painting. She was a member of Abundant Heart in Christ Church and also attended St. Paul United Methodist Church in Eaton. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 41 years, Donald E. "Nixie" Beard in 1993, sister Lois Ziegenthaler, nephews Jack Kenney, Terry Kenney and David Stilwill; and infant niece Nancy Kenney. Survivors include her sisters, Eloise Stilwill and Irma Chromick both of Dayton and Betty Sowder of Eaton; nephew Ray (Candy) Sowder of Eaton; nieces Ann (John) Hogberg and Diane Stilwill both of Dayton and Alice (Steve) Hardy of Anderson, CO; and numerous great nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Girton Schmidt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home, 226 West Main Street, Eaton, OH with Pastors Ray Sowder and Chris Farmer officiating. Burial will follow at Germantown Cemetery, Germantown, OH. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the time of services at 1:00 pm also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Abundant Heart in Christ Church, 216 South Cherry St., Eaton, OH 45320, St. Paul United Methodist Church, 120 North Maple St., Eaton, OH 45320 or Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420.
