BORKENHAGEN, Joanne C. (Scharrer) 90, of Dayton, Ohio passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl; daughter, Joyce Shortridge and her brother, Thomas Scharrer. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Stover and husband, David of Centerville; 4 grandchildren, Todd Shortridge and wife, Megan, Stacey Shortridge, Dr. Elizabeth Gannon, Alexandria (Gannon) Hawley and husband, Brandon; 4 step-grandchildren, Stephen Stover and wife, Amy, Scott Stover, Sarah (Stover) and Chuck Lampp; 4 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; several God children; numerous nieces and nephews. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, Aunt and a true friend. Her life touched so many in her 90 years. She was a Teacher's Aide for several years at Grace A Greene Vocational School. Joanne was an avid golfer, tennis player and bowler. She was a past President of the Dayton Women's Bowling Association and was inducted into the Dayton Bowler Hall of Fame in 1983. Joanne was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Vandalia, Ohio. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff, nurses and doctors of St. Leonard for the care, love and compassion over the past months of her life. Also, a special gratitude, thanks and praise to the (nurse) and nurses of Hospice of Dayton who took her down her final journey. You were so comforting to our family. A Funeral Service will be held 1 PM Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Baker-Hazel & Snider Funeral Home & Crematory, 5555 Philadelphia Dr., at N. Main St., Dayton, Ohio 45415, Pastor Peter Ray officiating. Burial Site is Glenn Haven Memorial Gardens, New Carlisle, Ohio. The family will receive visitors 5-8 PM Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45420, in Joanne's memory.
