WENDELN, Lavine Hamberg age 87, of Kettering, Ohio passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Bethany Lutheran Village. She was born in Coldwater, Ohio December 23, 1926, the daughter of Edward and Alvina Hamberg. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Donald E. Wendeln. Lavine was the heart of her family and her legacy is the great love that she gave her husband and each and every one of her children and grandchildren. This love continues to grow and keep her large family close. She is survived by nine children; son Edward of Dayton OH; daughter Diane Schulte of Vienna, VA, her children Eric (Christine Nalitz and their daughter Louisa) and Katherine; daughter Mary Seibel of Cincinnati, OH, her children Colleen Kelley (J. Maxwell Finland) and David; daughter Janet Wendeln and her husband Steve Hugenberg of Indianapolis, IN, their children Daniel (Amanda Patch), Elizabeth and Jennifer; son John and his wife Sally of Cincinnati, OH, their children Matthew and Kathryn; daughter Judith Miller and her husband Michael of Indianapolis, IN, their children Stephanie (Stafford Brunk) and Todd; daughter Donna Bange and her husband Joseph of Minneapolis, MN, their children Lauren and Christine (finance Ryan Pritchard); son Michael of Dayton OH and his fiancé Natalya Andrews; daughter Karen Sparling and her husband Paul of Hebron, KY, their children Ashley, Natalie and Kenneth. Lavine was the fourth of nine children and is preceded in death by siblings Catherine Hamberg, Howard Hamberg, Mary Thelma Hamberg Miller, Ralph Hamberg, Luella Hamberg Meyer, and Donald Hamberg. She is survived by siblings Thomas Hamberg and Joan Hamberg Stammen. Lavine moved to Dayton after graduating from Coldwater High School in 1944. She met her husband while he as a student at the University of Dayton and they married on July 22, 1950. Lavine was committed to the Catholic education of her children, and each of them graduated from Alter High School and University of Dayton. Lavine was a good friend to many and loved books, tennis, and bridge. Lavine retired from Alter High School where she was an administrative staff in the Guidance Office. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2012 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4500 Ackerman Blvd., Kettering, Ohio 45429, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment Calvary Cemetery.
