News Death Notice

WALKER, Donald Gene "Dixie" age 81, of Centerville, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014. Don was born to the late Marvin and Irene (West) Walker Sr. on February 21, 1933 in Dayton, OH. He graduated from Stivers High School in 1951 and attended Miami University and the University of Dayton. Don volunteered for the draft to serve his country for two years in the U.S. Army and devoted 40 plus years as a Cost Accountant for Inland GM. He was a dedicated family man with a strong devotion to his Catholic faith. Don loved sports including softball, for which he played until he was 79 years old. He was formerly a member of the Lyons Club in Bellbrook and coached several athletic programs in the Bellbrook area, as well as established many programs in the area that still exist today. He treasured spending time with his grandchildren. Don is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Marvin Leon Walker, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Lou "Mickey" Walker; children, Greg (Jenny) Walker, Mark (Liz) Walker and Amy Abahazie; grandchildren, Andrew (Sarah) Walker, Kevin (Alicia) Walker, Jeff Walker, and his fiancé Amanda Feld, Becca (Mark) Pincelli, Emily, Sara, Abby Walker, Reed, Regan, Mitchell and Ian Abahazie; sister-in-law, Ruth Walker; and nieces, Nancy (Jack) Cossett and Rebecca (Bob) Wise. The family would like to thank the Staff at Hospice of Dayton for all the wonderful care they gave to Don. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11am on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Church of the Incarnation, 7415 Far Hills Ave, Centerville. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service. In memory of Don, donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave. Dayton, OH 45420 or to Church of the Incarnation Athletic Association, 55 Williamsburg Lane, Centerville, OH 45459.
