COMPTON, James Arnold Age 88 of Brookville. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at his home. Arnold retired from the Dayton Tire & Rubber Company in 1980, and then continued his joy of farming in the Brookville area. Arnold was a longtime member of the Verona United Methodist Church and enjoyed helping his friends and neighbors with whatever they needed. He was a decorated veteran of World War II having proudly served in the US Army as a paratrooper, and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart, and was a Life Member of the VFW Post #5434 in Union. He is survived by his wife of 60 years: Martha L. (Keen) Compton, daughter: Susan Darlene Compton of Brooksville, FL, beloved friend: Gladys S. Badowski of Brooksville, FL, many loving brothers-in-law, sisters- in-law, other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Roby & Ida Mayne (Keen) Compton, in-laws: Josh & Louise Keen, and brothers: Roy D. & Buster B. Compton. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 12, 11:00 a.m. at the Kindred Funeral Home (400 Union Blvd., Englewood) with Rev. Leo Cunningham officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Royal Oak Memorial Gardens. If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Hospice of Dayton or the Verona United Methodist Church, envelopes will be provided.
